Clem (Junior) Edwards


Junior began organized soccer at the pee wee level coached by Herb Slaney. In 1967 he was a member of the Newfoundland Bantam team that played a National tournament in the province of Quebec. He was named MVP for that tournament,and he was coached by Newman Bartlett. He started coaching himself at the Minor level in 1970.



In 1966 Junior played his first game with the 1st division at the tender age of 15. He remained a member of the Senior Laurentlans for 20 years. Junior was the Captain of the Newfoundland Team that played In the Canada Games of 1973. In 1974 he was invited to Bermuda for tryouts with the Canadian National Team.



While playing 1st Division Junior won a number of Individual awards such as MVP, Most Dedicated and many All-star selections. He played in four National Challenge Cup tournaments coming close to winning on two occasions. He was a member of the Senior Laurentians who won many championships at the Burin, Provincal, Atlantic, and Eastern Canadian levels. He has been
a member of the Masters team for the past eight years winning seven Provincial titles.

At the coaching level in recent years he led the High School Blues to two Provincial titles. He coached the St. Lawrence Under-l8 boys Club team to a 4th place finish at the Nationals. For that he was nominated by the NSA as Coach of the Year. He has coached the Senior Laurentians to two consecutive Newfoundland championships. Nationally his team finished 7th in 1995, 5th in 1996 and in 1997. He was named coach of the year during the 1996 Challenge Cup season.



 Since Junior was old enough, he has devoted his whole life to playing, coaching and
contributing at the executive level.  It's because of the dedication and painstaking effort of this individual that he became a member of the St. Lawrence Hall of Fame in 1996, the Burin Peninsula Hall Of Fame in 1998 and the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Hall Of Fame in 2001.
